Faith that moves before it has details—and then waits twenty-five years.
Abraham is called the father of faith, but the record is not tidy. He obeys a call with no destination attached, then lies about his wife twice, then tries to engineer the promise himself. What holds is that he keeps coming back. The waiting is the part most men skip when they tell his story—twenty-five years between the promise and the son.
God tells Abram to leave his country for a land that will be shown to him later. The instruction and the destination arrive at different times, which is usually how it works.
The promise of a son comes decades before the son. Abraham's worst decisions—Hagar, the lies about Sarah—happen in that gap, when he tries to close it himself.
Genesis 22 is not a story about child sacrifice; it is about a man who had waited his whole life for one thing and was asked whether he trusted the giver more than the gift.
The call comes with a command and a promise, and no map.
He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.
“God himself will provide”—said on the way up the mountain, not after.
That obedience often precedes clarity, and that waiting is where character is formed. Abraham left without a destination and waited about twenty-five years for the son he was promised. His worst decisions came when he tried to force the timeline.
Genesis 15:6 says he believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. Paul builds on that verse in Romans 4 to argue that faith, not law-keeping, is how anyone is made right with God.
